Your July trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over K’an (Water) and the hexagram is called Meng or Youthful Folly. July is a time for explorations and learning things. So you need to keep an open mind about everything. Anything and everything can be a learning opportunity. This hexagram is also about having to deal with the follies of others. This is where you need your natural compassion to see things from their perspective and to realise you lead best by example and if it doesn’t work, forget it and move on remembering some lessons take longer to learn than others. K’an is warning against the trap of trying to do too much. Ken is inviting you to be still. Use the time in self improvement and reflection rather than in action – however well intentioned. Use the stillness to reflect, to meditate, to grow in self knowledge. Because then you can better deal with your own follies too.
Your July trigrams are Ch’ien (Heaven) over Ch’ien (Heaven) and the hexagram is called Ch’ien – The creative. You will feel totally at home and comfortable in July. The pure yang energy of this hexagram fits well with your natural fiery nature. Ch’ien is about creative forces and they are swirling around you in July. There is potential in even the most unlikely of situations and you have the determination to find and use it. But Ch’ien is about happiness knowledge and wisdom. Don’t get so enthusiastic you get carried away. You can be wrong. So listen to that inner wisdom and to other people who may have Ch’ien’s energy supporting them as well. Don’t assume if it’s not your idea it must be wrong. Ch’ien is reminding you true wisdom means knowing your limits and not exceeding them.
July trigrams are Chen (Thunder) over K’an (Water) and the hexagram is called Hsieh or Deliverance. Chen indicates a sudden change and K’an is warning of hidden traps. The good news is the traps can be avoided by making the change. While your natural response is to cling to what you know, after all its worked in the past, July is a month when you need to let go of ideas or beliefs when they are shown to be wrong. Every thing we do is driven by a self image. In July you may have to deal with the fact that your self image is wrong – as they often are. The good news is Chen almost always indicates an improvement. Believe me you deserve it! K’an rules the ears. Keep your ears open and you may hear some useful words. Be alert for opportunities and people that are overly flattering to you. Sadly if an offer seems too good to be true, it almost certainly is especially if it needs you to make even small compromises that make you feel uncomfortable.
Your July trigrams are Li (Fire) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called Chin or Progress. The subheading for this chapter really tells you all you need to know. ‘The goal is to follow the path.’ You may not like to keep on keeping on. You may feel it is not getting you anywhere. This hexagram is telling you you are doing just fine. The groundwork for Eureka moments is laid in the all the boring, normal times when you feel you are not achieving anything. Your mission is to be you – the best version of you possible. K’un is reminding you creation is organic and sometimes slow. Li is about being a shining example to others – not from what you do, but from who you ARE. Show others the path ahead. Li rules the eye and intelligence. You are being asked to use yours to get clarity on things. Don’t give into inconsistency and change tack. Don’t let nerves about the lack of obvious progress get to you. Following the path will get you where you need to be. That’s all you need to do.
Your July trigrams are Ch’ien (Heaven) over Ken (Mountain) and the hexagram is called Tun or Retreat. Your naturally sympathetic nature means you always want to help other people. In July you need to step back because not all situations can be resolved by your input. Don’t waste time trying to persuade someone to see things the way you do. It won’t work. Also don’t get pulled into trying to explain or defend your view. Don’t give into feelings of doubt or insecurity. Don’t feel guilty that you are not trying to do anything. Ch’ien is asking you to use your wisdom and see the value of non-striving. It’s time to work smarter not harder. Ch’ien is also telling you the universe has this one in hand. Ken is all about stillness and reflection. It’s time to sit down and use your energy for self care. Trust that the universe has ways of sorting out problems and that it will all work out just as it is meant to.
Your July trigrams are Chen (Thunder) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram s called Yu or Enthusiasm. Help is available for you this month. You just need to look in the right place or ask in the right way. You may need to accept that what you were doing isn’t going to work. Chen indicates a new perspective is needed. But Chen often indicates an improvement is possible because of the change. This may mean accepting a slower more indirect approach. Ploughing on regardless is not helpful. You need to let go of the idea that the best outcomes require maximum effort. Changing such thoughts takes time and practice. But it will be worth the effort. Chen is about renewal. Remember each new day is a new start. Stress is often felt in the gut and in July you need to pay attention to those gut feelings you can so often ignore. K’un is asking you to be receptive to signals you may have ignored before. Be prepared to be a follower rather than a leader.
Your July trigrams are K’an (Water) over Tui (Lake) and the hexagram is called Chieh or Acceptance of limits. You know how you think the world should be and it often is not. In July you need to recognise that your ideas about how things should work maybe placing limitations on you that you don’t need. You cannot change people so you need to work them as they are not as you would wish them to be. It may be a tough lesson to learn but it will be worthwhile. Don’t waste time trying to get others to do things your way. Doing things their way will still bring results. K’an rules the ears. You need to really listen to what others are saying. Tui is about recognition of spirituality in others as well as yourself. Tui is also asking you to detach yourself from wanting things to be different and to enjoy how they are. If you look for the joy and beauty in situations, rather than the problems, the world will start to look very different.
Your July trigrams are K’un (Earth) over Li (Fire) and the hexagram is called Ming I or Darkening of the light. This hexagram is a gentle reminder that day always follows night. And remember the darkest hour is just before the dawn. Nothing and I mean NOTHING lasts for ever. This situation will get resolved and in the meantime you have to do the right thing for YOU even if others don’t understand. But don’t act out of fear or self pity. Look for the positives. Li is asking you to use your intelligence and perception to see things with clarity. K’un is asking you to trust that changes are happening even if they are so small you can’t see them. K’un is also asking you to realise the limits of your ability to control things. Doing nothing feels wrong but a clear eyed view will show you there isn’t anything you CAN do. As well as the light of clarity, Li also represents fire’s other aspect – heat and destruction. Don’t risk getting burned or burnout. Step away. Take a rest and watch the horizon to see the sunrise.
Your July trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over Ken (Mountain) and the hexagram is called Ken or Keeping still/mountain.
The subheading explains this hexagram really well. ‘Keeping ones inner thoughts quiet and relinquish the childish heart.’ If something is causing emotional turmoil, you need to step back and try to get a non emotional clarity. Ken is about stillness, personal and spiritual growth, meditation, and attainment of the right goals. Just because a mountain is there, you don’t HAVE to climb it. This hexagram is often a call to meditate because meditation is a great way to get the detachment and clarity you need. In meditation you are encouraged to be still – physically and mentally. Ken rules the back and the traditional meditation posture, sitting still, upright, back self supporting, has a message for you. But even if you can’t assume a traditional position, meditation could give you unexpected insights that will help you move forward. You may not be where you want, but that does not mean disaster is inevitable. Accept where you are, who you you are, and let go of the need to always be right. Saying ‘I was wrong’ may cause some wounded pride but wounded pride is not fatal.
Your July trigrams are Sun (Wind) over Chen (Thunder) and the hexagram is called I or Increase. Things are going your way. Enjoy it! But keep your feet on the ground. You are reaping the rewards of earlier efforts. That means you still need to keep the same approach you did when there were obstacles. Sun is about being gentle, soft, kind. Sun also rules the intellect. Don’t let your emotions run away with you and lead you to trying to achieve TOO much. Sun is about gentle reflection on how far you have come and keeping your mind on what you truly want to achieve. Sun is also a reminder to be gentle with others especially if they don’t seem to get what you are trying to do. While Chen is the harbinger of this change, it is also warning it may not all be smooth sailing. Thunder comes and goes quickly and is a reminder that this current helpful energy won’t last forever. Keep your ears and eyes open for something unusual that you would normally dismiss. Now could be the time to give it a go.
Your July trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over Ch’ien (Heaven) and the hexagram is called Ta Ch’u or The Taming pier of the great. Have you ever rolled a large object down hill? It takes time and effort to get it going – it’s very slow at first then momentum and gravity take over. Beyond a certain point you can do nothing. If you feel things getting away from you in July, this is what is happening. This does not mean it’s all going to go wrong. Maintain your normal discipline and be prepared to sit back and wait to see what happens. Interfering or trying to alter things may only make things worse. Imagine trying to stop that boulder going at full tilt. Ch’ien is letting you know all that creative energy swirling around the situation is actually working FOR you. If you are watching the boulder thinking ‘it’s going to cause massive damage at the bottom’, trust Ch’ien to divert it to a place where it can stop with no damage to anything. Ken is saying – ‘no need to do anything, just stand back or better sit down, relax, maybe meditate’. Reflect on what is happening and learn the lesson. With reflection comes understanding that will be useful in the future.
Your July trigrams are K’an (Water) over Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Ching or The well. If you are struggling, there is almost certainly someone trying to give you help and advice – even this I Ching! In July you need to listen to that advise even, or indeed, especially if that advice requires you to abandon a pet project, take off the rose coloured glasses or let go of a cherished belief. Just because you don’t like what you are being told doesn’t mean it’s not good advice. If you reflect honestly you have known for some time what needs to be done. K’an is telling you that you need to let go of doubt and fear. K’an rules the ears and is asking you to listen actively and mindfully. Sun is asking you concentrate on what is really important. K’an indicates a hidden danger which can be avoided if you are honest enough to admit you could be wrong. Sun suggests there may be a repeating theme, something you have heard for a long time which now feels right. The next step is to take the advice.
