I Ching readings for November 2020

Note on Chinese. Translations of Chinese script into English letters is an inexact science…and Chinese is a subtle language with sight changes of inflection totally changing the meaning of the word. So Ch’ien and chien are totally different to each other. Also all words can have more than one meaning depending on context. The descriptions I give after each trigram refer to the illustrations on the website explaining about the I Ching.

Pisces

Your November trigrams are Ch’ien (Heaven) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called P’i or standstill. If there is a situation where you are making no progress the message of this hexagram is to stand back and take a fresh look. Sometimes if you can’t change a situation you need to change how you see it, how you react to it. In the end the only thing you can control is what you think. Ch’ien rules wisdom, K’un rules emotions. This is a month when the head needs to be in command. You cannot escape the reality that the situation is not one you can control, however much you wish you could.

Aries

Your November trigrams are K’en (Mountain) over Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Ku or work on what has been spoiled. K’en is all about stillness and is encouraging you to stop, think and reflect. However much delays annoy you, don’t let stubbornness make you insist on pushing ahead. Sun is also about reflection. But it is also about gentleness. Reflection may mean you realise you have taken a wrong turn somewhere. It’s not the end of the world. Don’t get impatient with yourself. Stop, think, regroup, and above all learn from all this. Remember FAIL stands for first attempt at learning.

Taurus

Your November trigrams are K’an (Water) over Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Ching or The Well. Both water and wind flow – almost by definition they are always moving. These two hexagrams do not sit comfortably with your fixed earthy sign and this hexagram is advising you to step outside of your comfort zone. You may not like sudden changes, but don’t let your stubborn side rule. K’an is warning you there is a hidden danger if you do. Just because things have always been one way, does not mean they have to stay like that forever. Sun rules the lungs – so take a deep breath and be prepared to let go of some cherished views.

Gemini

Your November trigrams are K’un (Earth) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called K’un – The receptive. This earthy trigram could stifle your airy nature or your nature can bring a lighter airy approach to things. K’un is all about nurturing. The earth is warm, receptive and fertile. It is feminine, maybe almost docile. The message of this trigram is that our approach to things can determine how they turn out. Bring an adaptable approach to things and they will work out well. Don’t get bogged down in emotions. K’un represents older women – who in Chinese culture are, by definition, wise. You may get help from someone like that. Be open to what they suggest.

Cancer

Your November trigrams are Tui (Lake) over Ch’ien (Heaven) and the hexagram is called Kuei or breakthrough. Everything is aligning for you this month. Let your tenacious nature keep you going because that’s all you need to do to make progress. In fact you don’t need to do much at all – just let things happen. Ch’ien rules wise people, and wise people know when to act, and when to stand back. Tui rules the young and innocent who have not forgotten how to play and have fun. Your mantra this month is ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy’. Get your work/life balance right – and all will be well.

Leo

When you feel you are at a standstill in something, the temptation is to push and push to try and change things. The message of this hexagram is to stand back and think. Ch’ien rules wisdom and you need to remember ‘Insanity is doing the same thing and expecting different results’. K’un rules emotions and receptivity. You need to be receptive to the wisdom of others. This is not the month to let your arrogant stubborn side rule. The only thing you can change is your attitude. Hard work – but worth the effort.

Virgo

Your November trigrams are K’un (Earth) over Tui (Lake) and the hexagram is called Lin or approach. K’un represents fertility, femininity – think of Mother Earth – gentle, giving, nourishing. Tui represents joy, innocence. Things maybe rough for you, but the hexagram is telling you better things are on the way. But you need to practice one of the foundations of mindfulness – acceptance of how things are. The way forward is to remain true to who you are. Don’t give into worry and don’t forget having fun is NOT against the law. Remember selfcare is never selfish. And you want to be fit for the better times that are coming.

You are naturally fair and open minded and that is the approach you need to bring to things this month. You need to be open to opportunity, maybe to guidance from someone. Your November trigrams are Tui (Lake) over Ch’ien (Heaven) and the hexagram is called Kuei or breakthrough. You are very resourceful, but have a tendency to distrust things and people. Don’t let distrust make you doubt that you are on the right path. Just keep on ‘keeping on’ and everything will fall into place. Chien the dragon is breathing the fire of creative energy into things round you. Tui is challenging you to enjoy this time when you are in the zone. Ch’ien rules the head, Tui rules the mouth. When you need them the right words will be there. Don’t doubt yourself or your ability.

Sagittarius

Your November trigrams are Li (Fire) over Chen (Thunder) and the hexagram is called Shih Ho or biting through. The combination of Fire and Thunder with your fiery sign means November could be exciting. The hexagram is called ‘biting through’ because there is something you need to get through, to get to the truth. It may be an uncomfortable truth that may shift how you see things but it also indicates a fresh perspective which could set you on a better path. Li is about clarity and judgment. Chen is about communication. Keep your eyes open for opportunities. Even if it is something you would not normally consider.

Capricorn

Your November trigrams are Li (Fire) over Ken (Mountain) and the hexagram is called Lu or The Wanderer. You may feel like a stranger in a strange land but keep your self discipline to the fore. And don’t start assuming a situation will end badly. Keep your mind and eyes on the bigger picture. Ken is all about the power of stillness. Li rules intelligence. Aquarius
