December 2020 I Ching Horoscopes

Note on Chinese. Translations of Chinese script into English letters is an inexact science…and Chinese is a subtle language with sight changes of inflection totally changing the meaning of the word. So Ch’ien and chien are totally different to each other. Also all words can have more than one meaning depending on context. The descriptions I give after each trigram refer to the illustrations on the website explaining about the I Ching. 

Pisces 

Your December trigrams are K’un (Earth) over Ku’n (Earth) and the hexagram is called K’un – The Receptive. Earth is dark, receptive, nurturing, fertile, and just accepts what happens. But the earth to the sunlight, to water to nurture the seeds and produce life not by doing anything – just by responding. December is a month when you need to be very receptive to what is going on round you. You may not like it but allow things to happen because fighting against it will wear you out. Don’t be tempted to assume you are the victim in what is going on though. Things are happening to allow K’un’s fertility to help you in the long run. 

Aries 

Your December trigrams are K’un (Earth) and Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Sheng – Pushing Upwards. Earth and Wind could both extinguish fire and you may well feel that the world is out to get you in December but don’t get impatient. Sun rules over your ability to penetrate and concentrate on things. And that is what you need to do. Engage your brain before acting or speaking and remember you can achieve more – by being soft in your approach. Sometimes you just have to let things happen – however impatient it makes you. Persistence is the key. Harness your natural courage and decision making ability and you will be fine. 

Taurus 

Your December trigrams are Chen (Thunder) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called Yu or Enthusiasm. Chen is called ‘The arousing thunder’ and it indicates a time of change maybe even turbulence. However much you enjoy stability, change is in the offing for you. Keep yourself grounded, and don’t let problems divert you or bring out your stubborn side. While your natural instinct is to keep on keeping on, don’t fall into the trap of believing it’s your way or no way. Be receptive to ideas from those around you. Other people can have good ideas too and change isn’t always bad. A new approach may be just what you need to get over an obstacle. Listen when others are trying to communicate with you. 

Gemini 

Your December trigrams are Sun (Wind) over Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Sun – The gentle penetrating wind. Sun is all about softness, gentleness, reflection and concentration. December is not a month to be indecisive. Sun is telling you to keep on as you have been doing – remembering that the wind can penetrate or get round most objects without causing damage if it does so gently enough. Sun also rules intellectual activity. Use your intellect to reflect, to learn, to work out what needs your attention next. Sun also rules the respiratory systems. If you are confronted by problems take a deep. Breathe and think before you act. 

Cancer 

Your December trigrams are K’un (Earth) and Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Sheng or Pushing upwards. Making slow progress may be tiresome and feel as if it’s all going wrong but progress is progress and pessimism is not justified. You are a water sign – water and earth makes a muddy mess but the wind lightens everything. Be receptive to advice from those around you. Keep focused. Sun rules concentration. And don’t let emotion take over. K’un indicates a slow approach will be best. K’un also rules the abdomen. December is a month to go with your gut feelings but remember ‘softly softly catchee monkey’. Sun is called the gentleness, be gentle with yourself and others. 

Leo 

Your December trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over Sun (wood) and the hexagram is called Ku or work on what has been spoiled. You can be a little inflexible at times and December is the month to find a little flexibility in your approach to things and people. Ken invites you to reflect on things. Since Ken rules the hands and back some reflection on how you do things could pay dividends. Sun is gentle and also invites reflection of your attitudes towards people. Sun rules the intellect and is telling you to engage your brain before operating your mouth. You may learn something valuable from those around you if you really listen to what they say and reflect on how their words make you feel. 

Virgo 

Your December trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over Tui (Lake) and the hexagram is called Sun or decrease. You set yourself very high standards, and it can be difficult when you find those standards hard to achieve. You may feel frustration or even anger. Stop being so hard on yourself. Ken is telling you there is a fine line between being persistent in your approach and stubbornly refusing to see that maybe you need to regroup and rethink. The world won’t come to an end if you don’t do things ‘just so’ and the world won’t come to an end if you take some time to just have fun. Tui is about innocence and joy. So, let your inner child out and have some fun! And then remember that the world won’t come to an end if you ask for some help. You don’t have to do it all yourself. 

Libra 

Your December trigrams are Chen (Thunder) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called or Enthusiasm and I LOVE the tagline in this chapter. ‘The path of least resistance is non-resistance’. Your natural approach is to be diplomatic and avoid confrontations. December is a month when this could be your best approach. Chen indicates a state of turbulence but change often brings new opportunities. We have two choices with change – fight it or go with it. ‘Go with the flow’ needs to be your mantra. Chen is also about communication. K’un is telling you to be receptive to that communication. K’un rules domesticated animals – animals that are easily led. Allow the change indicated by Chen to lead you to somewhere you need to go. 

Scorpio

Your December trigrams are Ken (Mountain) over K’un (Earth) and the hexagram is called Po or ‘splitting apart’. You are naturally dynamic and proactive but this hexagram is telling you to be still. Ken is all about stillness and K’un is about being docile. Not every situation needs you to act. You can’t stop people doing what they want and you need to accept common sense can be a very uncommon commodity. Whatever potential for problems you can see if you don’t act, you have to accept that inaction is your best choice. You could actually make things worse if you charge in. K’un is flexible and receptive which is what you need to be to avoid your stubborn side taking over. There is a fine line between standing your ground and being stubborn. Don’t cross it! 

Sagittarius 

Your December trigrams are Li (Fire) over Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Ting or the cauldron. December may feel like a cauldron and the phrase ‘out of the frying pan into the fire’ comes to mind. The image of wind fanning the flames seems apt and you may well feel out of control but you need to let go of the need to control things and sacrifice your ego to those flames. Li rules over enlightened and intelligent people who can show the right path to others. You are being given the opportunity to become a beacon to others. It may be a wild ride but the end result will be worth it. Sun is asking you to be gentle and reflective and keep your natural sense of humour to the fore. Don’t worry – the wind of Sun will not extinguish your natural fiery nature. 

Capricorn 

Your December trigrams are Chen (Thunder) and Sun (Wind) and the hexagram is called Heng or Durations. Things may be changing but don’t let this worry you. The simple message of this hexagram is keep on keeping on but stay true to yourself. Do not under any circumstances compromise your principles belief or standards. Things may have changed – that doesn’t mean you need to. Chen rules all forms of communication including electronic. Make sure you are focusing on listening or reading things properly. Sun is about gentle persistence and also telling you to engage your brain when it is needed. 

Aquarius 

Your December trigrams are K’an (water) of Ch’ien (Heaven) and the hexagram is called Hsu or waiting. Patience is not your strongest point but that is what you need. Ch’ien is sometimes called the dragon and I want you to visualise the dragon breathing fire through water and causing lots of steam to rise and then forming clouds to return water to the earth as rain. It’s a cycle that cannot be rushed. Chien is all about creation and creativity will be aligning around you but you need to be patient and wait for things to come to completion. K’an represents danger and confinement. The danger is that you get impatient and rush things. Don’t risk it! Sometimes limits are to keep us safe.
