August 2020 I Ching Horoscopes

Note on Chinese. Translations of Chinese script into English letters is an inexact science…and Chinese is a subtle language with sight changes of inflection totally changing the meaning of the word. So Ch’ien and chien are totally different to each other. Also all words can have more than one meaning depending on context.

Pisces

Your August Trigrams are Tui over K’an and the hexagram is called K’un – oppression or exhaustion. This is the same hexagram as in July and you may well feel you are totally stuck in relation to something. It could be a person or a situation. The message of this hexagram is that the only thing you can change is you. You need to start being true to who you are. Sometimes you don’t need to do anything. Sometimes all you need to do is let things happen. Yes – things could go wrong but worse case scenarios rarely happen. Stop catastrophising.

Aries

Your August trigrams are Chen over Ken and the hexagram is called Hsiao Kuo which translates as ‘preponderance of the small’ and it’s actually a warning against rushing in to do things. Being inactive does not sit well with your fiery nature but that is your best approach this month, however many problems seem to need you to do something. Chen is telling you that a change is going to happen. Ken is telling you to be still and wait for the right opportunity. You like to lead but maybe this time wait and see where others may lead you? Somebody young may surprise you if you really listen.

Taurus

Your August trigrams are Ch’ien over K’an and the hexagram is called Sung or conflict. The subtext here is ‘stop asking why.’ Ch’ien represents peace and balance which effectively are yours for the taking if you can accept that sometimes there is no explanation about why things or people are as they are. K’an is warning you of the dangers of asking why because sometimes there is no answer. Things just are and you cannot change them. That may hurt your ego but Ch’ien is telling you to listen to your higher mind. This may conflict with your ego, but don’t let your ego win. Just be patient. Answers will come in the right time.

Gemini

Your August trigrams are Li over Sun and the hexagram is called Ting or the cauldron. The message of this hexagram is that you have to accept you have only a limited ability to guide events. The I Ching uses very evocative descriptions and in this hexagram ‘the cauldron’ is where you need to sacrifice your ego’s idea that you should be in charge. Listen to other people. Use your intelligence. Reflect on the past. Li rules the eyes – keep them and your mind open. Sun rules the lungs. Take time to just breathe and see what happens when you just decide to wait and watch . You may well see something unexpected that will take you in a direction you had never even considered.

Cancer

Your August trigrams are K’an over K’un and the hexagram is called Pi or holding together. K’an is water K’un is earth – and when you mix earth and water they make mud. Mud is sticky and messy but can be useful. That sticky tenacity is what you need to get you through the month. August is a time when you need to be receptive to what is going on around you, while keeping your ears open for something unexpected. Don’t let your emotions run away with you, but don’t be too quick to accept things at face value. Hold on to what you know is right and you may find something very useful emerges in an unexpected way. When you hold yourself together everything can coalesce around you.

Leo

Your August trigrams are Tui over K’an and the hexagram is called K’un or oppression. Your sign is very fiery and these water hexagrams are in conflict with it. Indeed, you may feel the whole world is in conflict with you but rest assured the world is NOT out to get you. Tui is called the lake of joyousness. It rules over art, music. It is reminding you to take time to have some fun. Let your inner child out to play. K’an represents a danger – in this case the danger that you tire yourself out tilting at wind mills. I repeat the world is NOT out to get you. Take to relax, recharge your batteries, get a clearer perspective in things.

Virgo

Your August trigrams are Li over Tui and the hexagram is called K’uei or opposition/ misunderstanding. Use that natural analytical brain of yours to look deeper into the situation that is worrying you. The world is NOT out to get you. Tui is called The Lake and a lake has hidden depths. You need to look under the surface to find out what is really going on. Tui rules over the young and innocent. Try to bring a child’s curious, creative and open minded approach to things and accept that you don’t have to do it all on your own. It’s not illegal to ask for help and it’s also OK to just go with the flow and see what happens.

Libra

Your August trigrams are Sun over Li and the hexagram is called Chia Jen or the family/clan. You hate things to be out of balance and August is a month when you will need to bring your diplomatic side to the fore. Resist the temptation to try to change others minds by the force of logic. You lead best by demonstrating the qualities you want others in the family to have. A scale is in balance when both sides have equal influence. If you need to change a relationship the change starts with you and your approach. Give and take is always needed. Don’t be afraid to take sometimes. Li is all about pleasure. Take some ‘me’ time. It will do you good.

Scorpio

Your August trigrams are Ken over Sun and the hexagram is called Ku or ‘work on what has been spoiled’. Ken is called the mountain – it represents stillness and stubbornness. This is sometimes your strongest attribute, but in August you need some of Sun’s yielding gentleness. Clinging to an idea or belief that has been shown to be wrong helps no-one least of all you. Sun is challenging you to some reflection. Meditation may be helpful. Just because someone is younger than you does not mean you cannot learn from them. August is a month when what you do needs to be driven by your intellect, not your emotions.

Sagittarius

Your August trigrams are K’an over Ken and the hexagram is called Chien or obstruction. Your natural fiery nature does not react well to this combination of water (K’an) and earth (Ken the mountain). K’an represents the kind of hidden danger that can lie underwater. The phrase ‘fools rush in where angels fear to tread’ springs to mind. Your natural generosity means you want to help but right now that help will be counterproductive. The most effective help empowers people but only when they are ready to have that power and independence. Sharpen your inner perception and intuition. You will see when the best time to act is here.

Capricorn

Your August trigrams are Ch’ien over Ch’ien…and the hexagram is of course called Ch’ien – the creative. Sometimes called the dragon, this hexagram is positive, dynamic, and it rules the mind. All creation starts in the mind with a thought. So, if you have had an idea bubbling around, August is a great time to start acting on it. The message of this hexagram is that everything is aligned if you choose to make the most of the opportunity. But it’s not going to fall into your lap without some effort on your part. Keep your mind open and receptive. Help may come from an unexpected place.

Aquarius

Your August trigrams are Ken over Li and the hexagram is called Pi or Grace. The sub heading for this chapter is ‘self important intervention’ and that is what you need to avoid in August. Not every problem needs you to solve it. Sometimes you need to just stand by and see what happens. You won’t lose your worth in others eyes if you do. ‘Fools ruck in where angels fear to tread’ needs to be your mantra. Ken is sometimes called ‘The mountain of stillness’. Cultivate the stillness yourself in August. You will make better decisions as a result and just because someone disagrees with you, doesn’t mean they aren’t a good friend.
